Wine O’clock #4 – Grape Varieties

A wine o’clock is either a fun trivia or a cool fact about wine.

Did you know…?

The same grape variety can produce different wines depending on the soil in which it grows.

Consider two fields, both which have originated from calcareous rocks and have similar height and location. The first field has a gravelly soil, the ground of the second field has lots of fine clay particles.

The first vineyard will produce very fruity and relatively light and supple wines while the second vineyard wines will have more tannin and a wry taste.

Do you already have a favorite type of wine?

Cheers!
